I finally broke down and got a Stitch Fix Subscription! For over a year I haven’t had any subscriptions and I was hesitant to start this one, but I have to say I am really pleased with my first box. I have been having a hard time finding tops that I like for spring and summer, and so I thought maybe if I gave this a try I could get some good, quality pieces that could help me transition my wardrobe to spring.
Stitch Fix is an online subscription service that provides a personalized styling service. The service provides 5 items that are hand selected based on your personal style and is shipped to you as often as every 2-3 weeks, to as little as 1 every 3 months depending on your preference.
I originally heard about Stitch Fix a few years ago when my friend joined and she raved about it. I was hesitant to join because of the $20 subscription fee. The other subscriptions I’ve had were only $20. However, I have since found out that the $20 fee can be applied to any of your purchases, and if you purchase all the items in your box, you get a 25% discount on all items.
Once you create an account, you will proceed to create a style profile that asks you questions about your personal style. This also includes photos that you can choose between to show which ones represent your style. You can always go back in an change your answers, or change your sizes at any time before your box ships. Another thing I like is that you can link your Pinterest page so your stylist can view your page to get a better feel for your personal style.
Once your box ships, you have 3 days to return whatever pieces you didn’t like. The shipment comes with prepaid USPS envelope, so all you have to do is put in the items you don’t want, tape it closed and drop it in the mail.
In my first box, I received a sweater, a long sleeve shirt, a long cardigan, moto stretch skinny jeans and a long necklace.
- Chara Boucle Open Cardigan, color-Off White, size L. –Retail $74
I loved this cardigan, the fit was great, the length was great, the material was great quality. This cardigan was very much my style and was a very basic and versatile piece. The only issue I had with this piece was the price. I couldn’t justify spending $74 on this cardigan. Now I am not saying I will never spend $74 on a great piece, but I just didn’t feel this one was worth it, and that is why I choose not to keep this piece and return it.
2. Creevey Varsity Strip Pullover, color-off white, size L. –Retail $44.
I didn’t like this sweater at all. Even though this sweater did go with the style I choose, the fit and material was not my style. This sweater was very short in my opinion. I prefer longer tops and this one hit right at top of my jeans around my hip area. It didn’t look great on me. I would almost consider this a bit of a cropped sweater. I also wasn’t a fan of the material, although it was thick the weave of the material was quite large so you could see your skin or tank top underneath.
3. Reid French Terry Knit Top, color-Black, size L. –Retail $36.
When I opened the box, this was my favorite shirt. I loved the material, it was thin but you could see through it. This shirt was the perfect length and not too long. Now, when I tried this shirt on, it was a whole different animal, literally. I saw the shirt had a wider sleeve before I tried it on, but I didn’t think it would be an issue. Turns out, I am not a fan of the bat wing top and how it looks on me.
4. Brian Moto Detail Skinny Pant, color-olive, size 12. –Retail $50.
I loved this jeans, these are the only think I kept in this box. This box was totally worth it just because of these jeans. I have been looking for some jeans just like this for a while and I cannot find any that I like enough to spend the money on. These are stretchy and comfortable and fit perfectly and true to size. I also thought the price point for these jeans was not bad, around $50 is what I usually pay for a pair of jeans.
5. Laila Metal Bar Pendant, color- rose gold, size one size. –Retail $34.
This necklace was very pretty, and even though I loved the mix of metals I wasn’t a huge fan of this necklace. I have a larger chest so long necklaces just hit me at a weird spot. I didn’t keep this due to the the way it looked on me, but it did go perfectly with all the pieces in the box.
Total Cost of all pieces in the box: $238.00
Total Cost if all pieces were purchased: $158.50 (+the $20 you already paid)
Overall I was really happy with the box and I am fine with the $20 fee, the fee did go toward the purchase of the jeans. I got my box on Saturday, and I dropped the return envelope in the mail on Monday.
Included in the box is a small little pamphlet that shows you how you can style each one of your pieces. It shows the piece with two different looks, which I think helps you invision how you could wear each piece and give you ideas you might not have thought about.
After I tried on all my pieces I was able to log into my account and look at all the pieces I received, rate them, choose if I wanted to keep or return them and leave a comment about the piece. These comments and ratings help your stylist for future shipments.
One thing I was hoping to get in my box was more springy looks. However all the looks I got seemed like fall clothes. I was sure to notate that and request more spring looks for my next box.
I liked the box so much that I decided to go with the monthly subscription for now. I can change my preferences or skip a box at any time.
